Are Pheromones for Real?

Saturday, December 10th, 2011

Since women are 1000 times more sensitive to pheromones and the scent of musk than men, pheromones for men should have a strong impact on the fairer sex, but do they? Companies selling a range of pheromone products often cite an early study in which a chair treated with male pheromones in a doctor’s waiting room was said to attract more females than any other chair in the waiting room. This study is far from conclusive since pheromones are only detected at 18 inches meaning the women would have already been sitting before they noticed the scent. Despite the skepticism of scientists, companies continue to flood the market with pheromone products for men. Many of these products boast androstenone as the active ingredient, oxidised sweat smell, when in fact it is adrostenol, fresh sweat smell that is the arousal causing chemical. That pheromones for men can cause physical arousal in women is a proven fact but whether or not the multitude of products on the market have the desired effect of making dating easier, has yet to be scientifically proven.
